One of my favorite things to do when we study body systems is lab activities! They are easy to do with almost no supplies and they are great for practice writing conclusions using the CER format.

During our distance learning weeks, I wanted to make sure my students were still doing labs and writing. I assigned labs to practice these skills. I think I got the original lab for breathing rate from science-class.net and I have modified it a little to make it easier to do at home. These are also great during the year to reinforce cellular respiration and the WHY we need oxygen. I hate when they say we need oxygen to live; we have to get to the reason we need it to live.

To have a little more of a laugh, I updated this reaction time lab. They had a great time because it turns out we don’t always react to things very fast and that reaction time card is hard to catch!
